Breast reduction

Breast reduction aims to reduce the volume of breasts that are considered too large by removing excess glandular tissue and skin and correcting any asymmetry in order to achieve a harmonious result.

Objectives of the intervention

Excessively large breasts or breast hypertrophy can be considered a disability when it causes discomfort in everyday life (physical pain, difficulty dressing).

Breast enlargement is often seen in adolescents during puberty, but also after weight gain and breast fat development, particularly after menopause.

If the hypertrophy is severe and causes significant physical and psychological discomfort, breast reduction surgery can be performed as early as age 16 or 17, once growth has stopped.

Breast reduction offers physical benefits in terms of renewed comfort, but also, and above all, psychological benefits for the patient.

Breast reduction surgery aims to restore femininity by reshaping and re-contouring the breasts to achieve a look that is in complete harmony with the patient's figure and desires.

Several techniques can be used to treat different types of skin scars caused by breast reduction surgery.

Depending on the patient's profile, the skin scars caused by breast reduction may be concentrated in a "T" shape around the areola, vertically at the lower pole of the breast and horizontally under the breast; in an "L" shape around the areola and vertically at the lower pole of the breast; or, more rarely, only around the areola.

The plastic surgeon will choose the technique best suited to your profile in order to achieve the most aesthetic results, a harmonious shape, and long-term breast stability.

Postoperative care

Breast reduction surgery to treat hypertrophy is not a painful procedure. The postoperative effects of breast reduction surgery are generally minor.

Patients are discharged from the clinic the day after the procedure. Slight bruising may appear on the chest in the days following the procedure, but this will gradually fade and disappear.

Wearing a bra for 2 to 3 months after the reduction provides essential support for the final result of the procedure.
